04/05/10 Rare bird alert! White-throated Sparrow spotted in Boscastle the other day. I am not an expert but I think this is quite a big find! ............................................................................................. 24/01/10 Apparently a couple of weeks ago there was a bit of snow fall in England. So I thought I would go a get some nice photos! (ok we did have a bit)
............................................................................................. 16/11/09 I was a bit concerned when our guests for the weekend decided to do the coastal path while there was a weather warning (they had not settled up yet). So I thought I had better get a photo.
............................................................................................. 25/07/09 A very nice peice in the Telegraph today: Cornwall: Chic hotels by the sea Always nice to get recognition!
15/07/09 I have been attempting to photograph food which for me is a new challenge. Made even more difficult by the fact our food never stays on the plate for very long.
12/07/09 Boscastle Duck Race 2009 04/07/09 This is just one of the many views that is minutes away. Also a great photo (I took it!) Sean
20/06/09 Beauty Therapy Treatments Sacha Hughes now offers a range of treatments at Boscastle House. Including treatments such as Manicures, Organic Facials, Back Therapy and Massage.
.............................................................................. 19/04/09 Congratulations to a well cycled North Cornwall 'Tor' to Tristan and friends. I would have loved to have been there with you but unfortunately I hurt my gear changing finger sitting on a bike trying to eat a muffin while simultaneously drinking tea.
.............................................................................. 30/03/09 A few words from Frank: Spring is well and truly sprung! The garden is full of daffodils, the bank is covered in primroses, the rhododendrons and azalias are in bud, and best of all, warm sun on our backs. Hurrah. Walking in the winter has its own pleasures: the log fire in the lounge is best enjoyed after a bracing walk. And storm watching is a sport in its own right. Spring has different delights, and always surprises. We are in our second year at Boscastle House, but last spring we were preoccupied with the builders, and barely noticed the changes spring brought in the garden. This year, everywhere we look there is something new, or at least new to us! Were those daffodils lining the car park there last year? They must have been somewhere under several tons of stone. And Morwenna was admiring the Camelias in next door’s garden, and was most surprised when I showed her the two in her own garden, both twice her size, bursting with colour. The down side I suppose, is the grass is growing again. So, the mower beckons……..
And a pic from me: .............................................................................. 16/03/09 Spring sprung?
.............................................................................. Bos Fest Cornwall food festival
A date for your diary: North Cornwall is to get another major food festival this year. Following the huge success of last year’s Boscastle Food, Arts, Crafts and Walking festivals, the organisers have set the first dates for the main food and craft events. Food lovers should mark the weekend of October 3rd and 4th in their diaries, when some of the area’s finest chefs will be on stage to demonstrate their skills, together with what promises to be the biggest get together of food producers and suppliers anywhere in Cornwall.
.............................................................................. 02/02/09 A bit of snow!
..................................................................................
01/02/09 Boscastle Luxury b&b, with music! Had some spare time on the computer, so delved into the world of YouTube. I promise to try something a bit more creative next time!
.................................................................................. 05/12/08 'tis the season to be jolly... and for Christmas trees, decorations, roaring fires...
.................................................................................... 15/10/08 Last Sunday I walked to the Harbour to get myself a Yumyum from the bakery, and as it was such a nice day (and to counteract the Yumyum) I thought I would take a more indirect walk home. Below are some photos I took along the way: Feeling pleased with choosing a day in October to go for a walk and ending up with blue sky and wearing a T-shirt I celebrated with a slice of home-made bannana cake ..... and maple syrup .... and clotted cream ... and a cup of Assam.
.................................................................. 05/09/08 Boscastle Festival! October 4th and 5th 2008 The 3rd Boscastle Festival of Food, Arts and Crafts has been spiced up with extra ingredients to make it the best and most enjoyable yet. Among the highlights the giants of Cornish cuisine will be sending their executive chefs, including Neil Haydock from Fifteen Cornwall and Bill James the Seafood virtuos from Rick Stein's empire. Kevin Viner winner of Cornwall's first Michelin Star will make a personal appearance - all of them promising to cook up a cracking weekend of fresh food and fun on our spectacular coast. http://www.visitboscastle.co.uk/foodfestival/ Free weekend pass with bookings 22/08/08 Hi It has been a great few weeks, with many more lovely guests. We have had highs and lows with the weather, saved a few holidays that had begun with camping, found out that we serve probably the best salmon and scrambled eggs and made lots of new friends. I have also realised how many people read the blog, which is great. All the best Sean ................................................................. 17/07/08 I would just like to thank all the guest that have stayed with us over the last few weeks. It has been so nice having such lovely people to share Boscastle and Boscastle House with. We have been playing with the tag line "arrive as guests, leave as friends", and that has certainly been the case so far! ..................................................................
05/07/08 My apologies for the Blogging gap, but we have been finding out that there is more to B&B than just bed and breakfast. We have our rooms ready and have already had some very pleased guests. We have not had a full set of photographs taken as yet but below are a few to whet your appetite.
20/04/08 Hello again Over the last eight weeks I have been busy getting the renovation of Boscastle House finished, with the help of a team of builders, plumbers, an electrician, family and friends. It has not been an easy road and we are so grateful to be surrounded by such an active support network. All the effort that we have put in is really beginning to pay off and we can’t wait until the immanent opening of the doors to the outside world. I recently attended a sustainable tourism seminar where I met others in the area. It was great to see how friendly the people of Boscastle are and a really positive attitude towards the environment. It was also great to find out how much support there is to help us be green. We have focused upon environmental issues throughout the build and now we are opening the doors our focus has shifted towards supporting our local community through local sourcing of food and supplies. I have spent the last week testing some amazing sausages and apples juices; tasting food is a task I am particularly skilled at. My next task will be fair trade teas and coffee’s (although Morwenna beat me to the Pura coffee sampling session!). Kind regards Sean .................................................................. 25/03/2008 Hello and welcome to Boscastle House News page. My name is Sean and alongside my wife Morwenna, daughter Lamorna, in-laws Frank and Kay we have taken over what was Tolcarne House Hotel. We are approaching the end of the process of redesigning, redecorating and refurbishing what was already a 4 star rated B&B in Boscastle, with the goal of creating an outstanding place to stay while enjoying a beautiful place to be. My family and I have only recently moved to Boscastle from London, although my wife (indicated by her name) is originally from Cornwall. I was born and have spent most of my days in London, most recently working for a large media company. However due to Morwenna's family being from North Cornwall we have spent many a holiday and weekend break exploring the area, and after finding the picturesque fishing village that is Boscastle and its stunning surroundings we set about finding a way to live there. I hope to use this News page to keep you up to date with our progress and of the many events and places to see in and around Boscastle (many I have still to experience). I hope you get the chance to join us and experience all that Boscastle has to offer (although it may take a fair few trips). Sean ..................................................................
